Felice Tiene (CRG / TM) and Stefano Cucco (Birel / TM) were on the front row in the KF prefinal at the Winter Cup in 2014, followed by Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic / Vortex) and Martin Van Leeuwen (Zanardi / Parilla). At the lights, Tiene took the lead with Nielsen in his wheeltracks and Oliver Hodgson (Kosmic / TM) 3rd. But Nielsen took the lead at the first corner ahead of Hodgson. Karol Basz (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 5th in front of Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / TM) and Nikita Mazepin (Tony Kart / Vortex). Tiene dropped to 5th when faced with Basz. After coming through the repechage, Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / TM) was already back to 17th after four laps.
Nielsen escaped and Hodgson remained at his heels, Cucco gained 1.3” as Basz approached, followed by Mazepin and Lorandi. At the halfway point, Nielsen was 1” ahead of Hodgson, who was 0.4″ ahead of Cucco who would soon have to face Basz. Lorandi also went on the attack and took fourth position. Hodgson was then threatened by Basz, while Tiene was back in 7th position. Basz took 2nd on the 15th lap and there was a heated battle between Cucco, Lorandi and Hodgson for 3rd place. Hodgson got away but Mazepin and Tiene joined the small group fighting for 4th place. Mazepin did best, quickly distancing Tiene, Cucco and Lorandi. Besancenez was now with Gabriel Aubry in 13th (Tony Kart / Vortex) who raised his game.
It was a clear and flawless victory for Nielsen ahead of Basz and Hodgson, with Mazepin 4th, Tiene 5th and Lorandi 6th.
